Mesh

WITH MOST BANDS it is a case of IF they make it and get
a record deal. With Mesh-29, it is most definitely WHEN
they make it. Hailing from Whittlesey, professional musicians
Adam Mezzatesta (19) and Anthony Shiels (19) make up the
band. After meeting at school, they decided to start writing
and performing music at the age of 13.
At the age of 14, they cut their first demo and things
have gone from strength to strength since then. "Our
music is punk, pop , rock, a mix of everything really,"
Adam told me. He also added: "Our main influences
are Jimmy Eats World, The Goo Goo Dolls, New Found Glory,
Lit and Anthony is really into Ben Folds Five."
Having recently acquired a new manager in the shape of
ex-gangster Bernard O'Mahoney, the band hopes to build
on their local success by branching out to further a field.
"Bernard is talking to the Mean Fiddler group about
some gigs and he is also involved with the National Theatre
and our song 'Alone' may be used in one of its productions.
He has also cotacted EMI records and we hope to hear something
back from them soon, although that is still in its early
stages." Channel 4 are set to make a documentary
about the life and times of their manager and the duo
are set to be involved with that too.
With the band heading firmly in the right direction, I
asked them about what their long-term ambition are for
the band. "Firstly we'd like to get a record deal,
then do some touring. Ultimately, sell lotsof records
and aim for world domination!"
Their latest EP titled 'The EP' would suggest that their
ambitions are not far fetched, with songs such as 'What
Might Happen?' and 'Alone' underlining the talent and
versatility of the band.
When gigging locally the band cover such artists as James,
R.E.M, and David Gray. In the future they hope to do bigger
gigs in order to play their own music and with the help
of their manager should see this happen sooner rather
than later.
Mesh 29's website is well worth a visit with MP3's
