04/01/05 - Body found: Three quizzed
Evening Telegraph, Peterborough

A police officer stands guard outside the city flat where the body of a man was found.

A MAN has been found dead in a bath in ''suspicious circumstances'' following a party at his flat.
Today, three men, aged 18, 24, and 42, are in custody and helping police with their inquiries.

Police refused to say what the men had been arrested on suspicion of.

The gruesome discovery of the man's body was made by a neighbour, who had been at the party, in Stanground, Peterborough.

It is believed the man had been drinking with a few friends before going into the bathroom.

However, he was found lying dead in the bath at the flat in the two storey building, in Appleyard, at noon yesterday. It is believed the man died after choking on his own vomit.

A police forensic team was at the scene today collecting further evidence to try to piece together how the man came to die in the bath.

Kate Aldridge, a spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said: "As part of any investigation, where a death is unexplained, a police forensic team will be examining the scene to collect evidence.

"Officers will remain outside the scene today, as the forensic teams continue their work there."

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out today.
Miss Aldridge said: "Formal identification has not yet taken place, and will not do so until the post-mortem examination is complete.

"The man's identity will not be released until his next of kin have been informed."

The death has caused shock among residents living nearby.
Cecil Barghen (59), who has lived in Appleyard for three years, said: "This is a terrible thing to happen.

"I saw three to four police cars outside yesterday, and knew something serious had happened.

"It is shocking, and I have never known anything like it to happen here before."

Jillian King (53), also of Appleyard, said: I came back from holiday yesterday and saw there were police cars and an ambulance, and thought it was a robbery or burglary, but to find out someone had died is very shocking, particularly as the new year's celebrations have just finished."
