- Duo's mentor has 'colourful' past
by John Elworthy
Two young Fen musicians have linked up with a colourful
new manager, who has a website called "Hateland -
O'Mahoney's involvement with right-wing groups in the
80's" and which promises to tell "the truth
about the krays.
Adam Mezzatesta and Anthony Sheils, both 19 and from Whittlesey,
say they know all about Bernard O'Mahoney's past which
they say "is just that - his past."
The talented duo, who describe themselves as professional
musicians, have been writing and performing for five years.
They met at the Sir Harry Smith Community College and
have now started recording and selling their own CD's.
The duo perform as Mesh 29, "the Mesh part being
an amalgam of both names," said Adam. "As for
the 29, well that comes from nowhere!"
Adam says they met Lincolnshire-based O'Mahoney while
they were performing in a pub in Market Deeping and a
management deal was struck.
O'Mahoney says on his website: " I have come across
two top musicians who have agreed to let me manage them.
It's a contract free arrangement just to see where if
anywhere we can go"
And he adds: " God knows the music industry needs
people who can write their own material and perform well
without gimmicks. They are not the Beatles yet, but who
knows in the future?"
Mr Mahoney's own past is well documented on the rest of
his website, which incidentally now includes his young
proteges.
O'Mahoney, who likes to be known as Bernie, describes
in some detail the six books he has written together with
updated material on his biography.
He won notoriety by writing to a prisoner pretending to
be a woman and obtained a confession from the man for
murdering a three year-old girl.
"He claims i breached his confidence by telling police
he murdered the girl and in so doing violated his right
to a private family life." O'Mahoney claims.
He also writes of his time as a football 'fan' when in
January this year he was charged after running onto the
pitch at Peterborough United following their FA Cup tie
with Newcastle United.
Mesh 29 say they have no problems with such a colourful
manager, and say he is proving already to be of help in
securing them bookings and helping with the launch of
an upcoming CD.
"We talk to him every day," said Adam. "
I know he has been speaking to people - he knows people
and that should help."
You can see the up and coming Mesh 29 on their own website,
launched this week, on www.mesh-29.co.uk.
