06/09/05 - Four arrested over stabbing
SPALDING TODAY

POLICE have assured Market Deeping residents they are not at risk after a man was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Armed police were called to Black Prince Avenue between 1am and 2am on Sunday to reports that an altercation had taken place following an incident outside The Coach House pub earlier that morning.
The incident left a 45-year-old man with a stab wound to his arm and a 42-year-old man with injuries to his hands.

The 45-year-old was taken to Peterborough District Hospital before being discharged on Monday. The 42-year-old is in a stable condition in Cambridge's Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Police carried out a search of the area and arrested four men in connection with the incident, who remain in custody.

Insp Andy McManus, of Lincolnshire Police, has reassured Market Deeping residents that police will be increasing their presence in the town following the incident.

He said: "This was not a random attack and the public are not at risk.

"The incident occurred due to an escalation of a prior disorder.

"There will be an increased police presence in the town to reassure people. Patrol officers will regularly be visiting the local pubs to ensure that there is no violence or other problems."

Chief Insp Kieran English added: "Officers responded and dealt with the incident appropriately and at no time were other members of the public at risk.

"We will not tolerate acts of violence or those who increase fear within local communities. Our inquiries continue into this incident and we would welcome any information from members of the public."

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Lincolnshire Police on 01522 532222 or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
