09/09/05 - Four arrested after stabbing

Police are reassuring people in the Deepings after a man was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning. After an altercation outside a pub, the affray continued on Black Prince Avenue which resulted in a 45-year-old man receiving a stab wound to the arm.

A 42-year-old man suffered hand injuries. Armed officers were deployed to minimise any potential risk to public safety. The officers conducted a search of the area and arrested four people. The men, who all live locally, were taken into custody for further questioning.

Chief Insp Kieran English said: "Officers responded and dealt with the incident appropriately and at no time were other members of the public at risk. "We will not tolerate acts of violence, or those who increase fear within local communities. Our enquiries continue into this incident and we would welcome any information from members of the public."

Insp Andy McManus added: "I want to reassure the local community of Market Deeping. This was not a random attack and the public are not at risk. The incident occurred due to an escalation of a prior disorder. "There will be an increased police presence in the town to reassure people.

Patrol officers will be regularly visiting the local pubs to ensure that there is no violence or other problems. "If anyone has any concerns about licensing issues, please do not hesitate to contact me at Stamford Police Station on 01780 752222."
