A MAN accused of smashing a beer glass in the face of a pub customer has been cleared after a witness said someone else was responsible.

Bernard O'Mahoney (44) was alleged to have attacked Kenneth Turton after violence erupted in the Old Coach House in Market Deeping.

But Sean MacDonald, who came forward after a police appeal for witnesses, told Lincoln Crown Court he was sure Mr O'Mahoney was not the culprit.

He said he saw Mr O'Mahoney and Mr Turton being held apart by doormen when a third man picked up the beer glass and threw it at Mr Turton.

Giving evidence, Mr MacDonald told a jury this week: "The man who was hit screamed and shouted he had been hit in the face. After that it was mayhem."

Earlier Mr Turton told how he was left with blood pouring from wounds to his face and chest but confessed he did not see his attacker.

Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting, told the court she would be offering no further evidence against Mr O'Mahoney after Mr MacDonald's testimony.
