unconscious in street
DETECTIVES today made an urgent appeal after a man was
found lying unconscious in a city street. Gary Unsworth
(25), of Monument Street, Eastfield, Peterborough, was
found with serious head injuries outside the Grove Community
Centre, in Grove Street, Woodston, shortly before 10pm
on Sunday.
But officers said exactly how Mr Unsworth came to be unconscious
was a mystery He was discovered by passersby, who called
an ambulance which took him to Peterborough District Hospital.
He was later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in
Cambridge.
Detective Constable Mike Garrett, who is investigating
the incident, said: "Gary remains in a stable, but
poorly, condition in hospital, and I need to know how
a fit and healthy young man ended up unconscious.
"We have spoken to several witnesses about what happened,
and we do know that there was some kind of disturbance.
"However, we don't know exactly what took place,
and how Gary came to receive his head injuries.
"There was a bingo night on at the Grove Community
Centre that night, and we need to speak to anyone who
may have seen anything suspicious."
A 36-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from Peterborough,
who were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident,
have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
