FACES

George and Alan Dixon

George and Alan Dixon, were friends of the notorious Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie, and were once jailed for their part in a protection racket. In the early Seventies they were sentenced to a total of 21 years for demanding money from publicans.

George, Alan and the Krays had what you might call a love-hate relationship. It could have been a terminal one. Reggie Kray saved George's life when he ignored a warning from Ronnie to stay away from a particular gambling club. Ronnie collected a gun from behind a cistern in the club toilet and took aim at George. Reggie knocked the gun away. The word "fortunate" doesn't begin to cover it.

Later, after they had made up, Ronnie gave George the bullet that had his name on it. For years afterwards, George wore it round his neck on a gold chain - the lucky charm to end all lucky charms.
