Paul Massey

Liam Gallagher of Oasis is lining himself up to play a movie gangster. Gallagher has held meetings in Scotland about starring in a film about real-life Glasgow Gangland boss Paul Ferris. The lead is likely to be taken by Robert Carlyle while Gallagher is being linked to the role of Ferris's close friend Paul Massey, recently released from prison for stabbing a man in the groin and leaving him for dead.

The film has the working title of The Apprentice. It's based around a biography of Paul Ferris, who served as an enforcer for Arthur Thompson, a Glasgow gangster. After a falling out, Ferris was charged and the acquitted of the murder of Thompson's son, Arthur 'Fat Boy' Thompson Jr.

He was jailed in 1998 for selling machine guns. But Liam Gallagher would be playing Paul Massey, an associate of Ferris and a "Mr Big" in the Manchester crime scene over the last decade, according to Salford's council chamber. He is known for trying to keep heroin off the streets of Manchester with stickers on lampposts warning dealers they would be "smacked".
