??/??/?? - Bernie's knock-out night still on

A BASILDON man's fight to raise cash for a 10-year-old boy badly injured in a road accident in South Africa is to continue ... despite the fact that the youngster, James Fallon, tragically died this week, writes DICK MARSHALL.

Bernard O'Mahoney, who lives on the Fryerns Estate, enlisted the help of friends, including Reg and Ronnie Kray, to help raise cash with a charity boxing show at Woodford Bridge's Prince Regent Hotel being the highlight.

The show was already a sell-out but young James died this week from injuries received when he was knocked down by a joy rider. Now money raised tonight will be used to fly James' body back to Britain for the funeral.

Tickets went so quickly for tonight's show that space was made at the Prince Regent to accomodate 50 more guests and some tickets will be available on the door tonight. Bernard said: "It is so tragic that James has died, but we are determined to raise the funds which will allow his parents to bring him back home."

Bernard at one time lived on the same Midlands estate as James' parents, who were in South Africa on a five-month working contract when their son suffered his appalling injuries.
