??/??/?? - Crash victim James dies
Express & Star Former

Codsall schoolboy James Fallon has died in South Africa nearly two years after suffering severe spinal injuries in a road crash. The brave 11-year-old died in the arms of his parents and sister at a Johannesburg hospital.

Today his heartbroken father Roger, speaking exclusively to the Express & Star from the family's South African home, said: "James was a very special child. It was a privilege to be his parents.

"He gave us hope even at the end and now we want to bring him back to Codsall where the family had so many friends." James was paralysed when he was hit by a speeding car, driven by an under-age motorist.

The 17-year-old driver, who had taken his father's car, without consent, was later fined £50. Top surgeons from all over South Africa managed to save his life with a seven-hour operation which has since featured in medical journals throughout the world.

James was finally allowed home, 18 months after the surgery, in January, where his parents converted one of the rooms at their home into a private intensive care ward. But earlier this week he began suffering fits and was airlifted to hospital after he went into a coma following injections.

A major appeal launched to help James won the support of gangland villains Ronnie and Reggie Kray, who today sent their condolences to his parents. A star-studded boxing match in London tomorrow night to help the James Fallon Appeal, and presented by permission of the Kray twins, will still go ahead as a tribute to James.
