26/01/05 - Reggie Kray's Gay
Lover Gets Life for Murder
By Pat Clarke, PA
Gangland legend Reggie Kray’s former gay lover
was jailed for life today for a “cowardly and
vicious” murder.
Bradley Allardyce, 36 – who spent three years
with the Kray twin at Maidstone Prison, while serving
a nine-year sentence for armed robbery set on his victim,
David Fairburn, with two others.
Allardyce became incensed by Mr Fairburn during a love
feud involving Alldyce’s girlfriend’s sister,
the Old Bailey was told.
Together with Shane Porter, 28, and Wayne Turner, 41,
Allardyce singled out Mr Fairburn in the street before
kicking, punching and stabbing him to death.
Orlando Pownall QC, prosecuting, said that Mr Fairburn
had been going out with Amy Cooper until Christmas 2002
when the relationship ended badly.
Fairburn then moved in with a new girlfriend.
Ms Cooper’s sister Tracey lived with Allardyce,
and Porter was going out with one of Amy’s cousins.
Turner was a close friend of both Porter and Allardyce,
the court heard.
Links between the defendants and Amy Cooper showed
a motive for the murder on April 23 last year.
He explained: “It may very well be that the split,
the break up in the relationship between Amy and Mr
Fairburn, lies at the heart of the events which led
to his death a year after.”
The defendants had sided with Amy after the separation
and it had resulted in bad blood between them and Mr
Fairburn.
A post-mortem revealed that Mr Fairburn had been stabbed
at least twice, with one wound cutting through the heart
and collapsing a lung.
“The cause of death was given as shock and haemorrhage“,
said Mr Pownall.
Allardyce and Turner, of Farr Avenue and Porter, of
Law House, Maybury Road, all Barking were found guilty
of murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm
– which they had denied.
The Judge jailed all three for life and said they should
all serve 18 years before being eligible for parole.
The judge said: “You hunted down your victim
as a pack. You formed an agreement which culminated
in murder. You were all part of what has been described
as a baying crowd. This was a vicious and wicked attack.”
Allardyce admitted to the BBC in January 2002 that
he had a sexual relationship with Reggie, who died five
years ago behind bars while serving life for the murder
of Jack “the Hat” McVitie.
Bisexual Allardyce told a BBC reporter: “I am
openly admitting for the first time that we had a sexual
relationship as much as it was against my will and he
knew it was against my will.
But he added: “There is not one day I would change
with mine and Reggie’s relationship.”
The pair spent most of their time at Maidstone in each
other’s company. |
