GANGLAND legend Dave Courtney has dumped his knuckledusters to help take a new band to the top of the charts. The south-London based film director and author was brought in to manage Scotland-based band Mute after lead singer Jay Burnett contacted him.

Dave, who tops the bestselling crime biography list with his book 'Stop the Ride, I Want to Get Off ', took the band on a whirlwind tour of London during their trip to his Plumstead 'castle'. The four-piece band met Dave in Scotland last month and recorded The Clash's classic single 'I Fought the Law' with Dave and Jay on vocals.

The lyrics changed from 'I fought the law and the law won' to 'They tried to bring me down a peg and say I was a grass, but I wasn't having none of that and put him on his ass'. It continues 'I fought the law and I won'. Jay said: "Dave has made it crystal clear to us not to go near drugs or crime.

He doesn't want any trouble with the police and wants to keep us on the straight and narrow." Dave quit his former world of crime to concentrate on his acting, modelling, and film directing career. The band, along with Dave, are due to make a video for their first single within the next two months.
