- Sad Kray twin pays a tape tribute to James
Express and Star
By Jon Griffin
Gangland legend Reggie Kray has paid his own personal
tribute to ex-Codsall schoolboy James Fallon, who lost
his two-year fight against appalling injury this week.
The infamous Kray twin sent his own special tape-recorded
message from his prison cell to guests at a boxing dinner
held in James's name.
Reggie's capped tones boomed out to 300 guests at the
Prince Regent Hotel in Woodford Bridge, Essex a few miles
from the old East End, stamping ground he and his brother
Ronnie ruled by fear a quarter of a century ago.
The Kray twin told guests at the dinner: "I would
like to thank you all for being present. James has now
found peace and happiness. "I wish I could be with
you physically but I want you to know I am with you in
spirit."
The dramatic message was relayed to a wide range of old
associates of the Kray brothers, who had gathered for
a special boxing evening arranged before James's death
on Wednesday this week.
Among the well-known celebrities at the hotel were Charles
Kray, Ronnie and Reggie's elder brother, former Kray gang
member Tony Lambrianou, Ronnie Kray's new wife Kate and
Flannagan, the first-ever Page Three girl.
The 11-year-old died on Wednesday in the arms of his parents
and sister at a Johannesburg hospital. He had been paralysed
since being hit by a speeding car, driven by an underage
motorist tow years ago.
Top surgeons from all over South Africa managed to save
his life with a seven-hour operation and he was finally
allowed home in January, after his parents converted one
of their rooms into a private intensive care ward.
But earlier this week he began suffering fits and was
airlifted to hospital after he went into a coma. Mr Bernard
O'Mahoney, organiser of the dinner, told guests: "Ronnie
and Reggie are deeply saddened by James' death but those
people who James left behind will still need our help."
Guests stood for two minutes' silence in honour of the
former Codsall schoolboy before a charity auction was
held to raise cash for the appeal fund.
Among the items auctioned off were a Dire Straits platinum
disc for £350, a pair of boxer Charlie Magri's shorts,
a signed football donated by league champions Arsenal
and two passes to Broadmoor and Lewes Prison for visits
to Ronnie and Reggie Kray. Mr O'Mahoney said that he had
hoped to raise £10,000 from the evening. |
