??/??/?? - Tragic family visits Kray twin to say thanks
Express and Star

The family of tragic former Codsall boy James Fallon have visited London gangster Reggie Kray in prison - to thank him personally for helping them. Roger and Elaine Fallon and their 16-year-old daughter Leanne travelled to Lewes Prison in Sussex for their first face-to-face meeting with the notorious Kray twin.

And today Mr Fallon, who flew over from South Africa with his family for last Saturday's memorial service for James, called for the former London underworld king to be released from jail. "I would like mto see him set free. I think that athis time of life he wants to have some sort of life to himself after all the years he has served," he said.

"When you consider some of the sentences handed out today then I think that the Home Office should be looking to release him. "There is no doubt that both the Krays do a lot of work for charity. They are genuine in what they do, not just to try to get out of prison."

The Fallons' visit follows a marathon fund-raising appeal for their son, which was heavily supported by the Kray twins and a large number of celebrities. "Reggie was not the kind of man I was expecting. We found him a very gentle man, not like the character we expected," said Mr Fallon.

"We took some albums of photographs of James with us which we were able to show Reggie. "We asked him if we could do anything to help him, but he said that the authorities are handling his case."

James, who lived with his family in Codsall before emigrating to South Africa, died in March in a Johannesburg hospital from injuries suffered when he was struck by an underage motorist. Top surgeons in South Africa managed to save his life in a seven-hour operation.

He was finally allowed home 18 months later, but died after going into a coma following injections.
