- Mental health case goes to appeal
A woman whose child was abducted, murdered and mutilated
by a man with known psychiatric problems has taken her
case for compensation to the Court of Appeal.
Beverley Palmer's daughter Rosie was murdered by Shaun
Armstrong in 1994. Ms Palmer says she is no longer able
to work, has attempted suicide several times and been
sectioned under the Mental Health Act as a result.
She is seeking £200,000 compensation from Tees
Health Authority which was responsible for Mr Armstrong's
care. She claims Hartlepool General Hospital failed
to carry out proper assessments on Mr Armstrong. The
High Court threw out her claim last year.
The Appeal Court hearing is expected to last three days.
