05/05/97 - New baby joy for
murdered Sophie's mum
Steve Atkinson
The Mirror
The mother of murdered toddler Sophie Hook has given birth
to a baby girl.
Georgia Rachel was christened yesterday at the church
where Sophie is buried.
Pervert Howard Hughes snatched Sophie, seven, from
a tent in her uncle's garden at Llandudno, North Wales
two years ago.
He raped the little girl before hurling her body into
the sea.
The judge who sentenced Hughes, 31, at Chester recommended
that he should never be freed.
He told him: "You are a fiend. Your crimes are
every parent's nightmare."
Now Sophie's mum Julie Hook, 36, has four-month-old
Georgia Rachel to help her overcome her terrible loss.
The family had the baby christened at St Mary's and
All Saints church in Great Budworth, Cheshire.
The Rev Derek Mills: said: "They want to keep
things private. It's a time of heightened emotions."
A well-wisher said: "Nobody knew anything about
Julie's new baby. They kept it secret.
"But everybody hopes it will help the family come
to terms with their tragedy.''
After the christening, Sophie's family placed flowers
and wreaths on her grave. One had a card with the poignant
message: "Precious memories of Sophie on Georgia
Rachel's special day.
"Always in our hearts and prayers."
Julie and husband Chris have struggled to rebuild a
normal family life with children Jemma, 11, Joseph,
seven, and Ellie, three.
A friend said: "It's been an enormous strain but
Georgia may just prove to be the turnaround point in their
lives." |
