- Parents welcome evidence from Victoria's killers
The parents of Victoria Climbie are welcoming plans to
make the killers of their child give evidence at an inquiry
into her death. Marie Therese Kouao and her boyfriend
Carl Manning, were jailed for life for Victoria's murder
after she suffered months of torture at their hands.
They are thought to be the first convicted murderers to
be ordered to give evidence at a public inquiry. Victoria,
who died in February last year, was found with 128 separate
wounds to her body after suffering horrendous torture.
It has been widely seen as one of Britain's worst child
abuse cases. Welcoming the move to order the killers to
give evidence, Victoria's father said: "We must find
out the truth and have justice." "It is going
to be very, very hard but it will not be a problem facing
Marie Therese at all. We trusted her with our child,"
he added.
Mr Climbie went on: "Whatever Marie Therese got,
she deserved it. We want to get to the bottom of the truth
and if Marie Therese can contribute then she should be
allowed." Manning looks set to give his evidence
via video link but Kouao is likely to give hers in person.
It is believed Kouao may have to give evidence in a crown
court and the pair will not come before the inquiry until
December or January. |
