ROPE: Why was It there? It was left by the van's previous owner, Whiting said.

PLASTIC TIES: The black nylon ties were looped together handcuff-style in a figure of eight. Whiting said he didn't know they were there.

SPADE: The Crown said Sarah's blue dress had never been found, and asked if he used the spade to bury anything. Whiting said he used It only for building work.

WOOD PANELS:The back of the van was like a sealed compartment, lined with plywood. Whiting failed to mention until yesterday that he had dumped it that weekend.
