MR JUSTICE MOSES
Yes, Mr Latham.

MR LATHAM
My Lord, I recall detective Constable Warren.

MR COWARD
My Lord I apologise, it is a matter I forget to deal with.

MR JUSTICE MOSES
Still on oath thank you.

MR COWARD
I apologise for you having to come back, the fault is entirely mine. One of the topics you spoke to the Court about was Maxine Carr on the occasion you visited Mr Huntley at his home. Let's see if I can clarify the situation on the two separate questions One is where was Maxine at time you were speaking to Mr Huntley on the 5th, what was said about that; and a separate question is where was Maxine at the time the girls were seen and what was said about that. Can we try to keep them separate? You have told the Members of the jury that when he was telling you about the events the night before when the girls were seen, he used the word "we" and I think you also said that he said "we were watching television when we heard the noise". outside?

ANDREA WARREN
Correct.

MR COWARD
He went on to say that the girls were enquiring after Maxine. When he said that, on the account that you have given, when you were speaking to him, did you say to him, did you call to Maxine to come out and speak to the girls, or did you say to the girls come on in and talk to Maxine?

ANDREA WARREN
I didn't ask where Maxine was.

MR COWARD
Thinking about it now, slightly curious, isn't it, because Maxine Carr, if she had been there, as you are suggesting by the use of the word we, might have become a significant witness, as Mr Huntley was, had she seen the girls and spoken to them herself?

ANDREA WARREN
He never indicated where Maxine was.

MR COWARD
Forgive me, you said to the jury "We were watching television"?

ANDREA WARREN
Correct, that was throughout the course of the -? When he was outside, he was the only person outside.

MR COWARD
Did it not occur to you to say where was Maxine at the time?

ANDREA WARREN
I didn't ask that.

MR COWARD
Thinking about it now, it is odd, isn't it, that you did not ask him was Maxine in the house?

ANDREA WARREN
He never indicated that Maxine had left the house and seen the girls, only he had seen the girls and spoken to them.

MR COWARD
So far as the second question was concerned, which is where was Maxine at the time you and your fellow officer were speaking to him on the 5th, what I suggest happened was that one of you - I can't say which - raised the question of where is Maxine. Transcript edited by Sky News

MR COWARD
"I was standing at the front of my house. approaching me, one of them asked about my partner, Maxine Carr, talked about Maxine having worked at the school. I did not know either of the girls and I stood outside. They obviously wanted to speak to me. one of the girls asked how Miss Carr was; I told them she was not home. The girls said they were sorry and walked off. I did not see them again." Absolutely no reference to Maxine at all there, is there?

ANDREA WARREN
that is his account of being outside the house; Maxine wasn't outside the house.

MR COWARD
and it never occurred to you to ask where Maxine was at that moment?

ANDREA WARREN
no.

MR COWARD
thank you.

MR JUSTICE MOSES
just before you sit down, the question goes bit further than that, doesn't it? I mean - stop me if you do not want me to ask it - it is not just a question of you not asking where Maxine was but why didn't you ask him, well, the girls had come to see Maxine, why not go and fetch Maxine out to see him, why no follow-up question, what was the purpose of the girls' visit?

ANDREA WARREN
his account was he had a conversation with the girls outside the house and the girls walked off.

MR JUSTICE MOSES
yes, thank you very much. Anything else? No? Thank you very much.
