25/03/92 - Boy held for life after death of sister
The Times
A boy aged 15 was yesterday ordered to be detained for life under the Children and Young Persons Act after being found guilty of the manslaughter of his six-year-old sister in a pond at a disused brickworks.
Simon McBride, in foster care, was also convicted of abducting Rebecca McBride from her parents' home in Swansea, two days bfore her body was found 20 miles away near Ammanford, Dyfed. The jury at Swansea crown court cleared him of her murder. McBride denied all the charges.
Mr Justice Swinton Thomas said that the jury was satisfied that McBride had either deliberately pushed or thrown Rebecca into the pond, causing her death. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a charge of indecent assault and the judge ordered the case to lie on file.
