11/12/96 - Dad's tragic plea
The Mirror
The father of tragic murder victim Sophie Hook is targetting
top MPs in an emotional attempt to bring in new laws
to curb paedophiles.
Chris Hook has produced a heart-rending collage of
photos of pretty Sophie and sent it to leading MPs of
all parties. Sex monster Howard Hughes snatched the
seven-year-old in the middle of the night while she
slept in a tent in her uncle's garden.
He carried her to the beach nearby at Llandudno, North
Wales, where he raped her twice before strangling her
to death and dumping her body in the sea.
Hughes was sentenced to life earlier this year.
Chris Hook has since called for MPs to adopt an American
system where communities are warned about perverts moving
to their area.
The collage has been sent to Home Secretary Michael
Howard, Labour's Home Affairs spokesman Jack Straw and
Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesman Alex Carlisle.
It includes a poem written by Sophie's elder sister
Jemma.
Mr Hook said: "A paedophile is not some dirty,
dishevelled, easily-identified weirdo.
"You and I would find it extremely difficult to
pick one out. This is how they succeed." |
