The man accused of the brutal sex murder of little Sophie
Hook confessed to his dad.
Wealthy quarry boss Gerald Hughes, 71, broke down yesterday
as he told a court that his son Howard had admitted
the killing.
Seven-year-old Sophie was snatched from a garden tent
last summer. She was raped then murdered.
Mr Hughes - a friend of the Hook family - said his
son told him after being arrested: "Yes I did it.
You don't know what it is like to be sexually frustrated."
Mr Hughes added: "He said that she was screaming
and that there were people about. So he put his hand
over her mouth to stop her screaming and held it there
until she stopped."
Mr Hughes said his son had a history of learning difficulties
- and was like a child in an adult's body at times.
Hughes, 31, of Colwyn Bay, Wales, denies the rape and
murder of Sophie, from Cheshire. The trial at Chester
Crown Court continues. |
