04/07/96 - What a thief saw
on night Sophie died
The Mirror
A Burglar saw Howard Hughes carrying a sack with a leg
hanging out of it the night little Sophie Hook was killed,
a court heard yesterday.
Jonathan Carroll, 30, had been stealing a dinghy from
a Llandudno garden.
"I heard a rumble. I waited until I could see
who it was. It was Howard Hughes," he told Chester
Crown Court.
"He was carrying a hessian sack. It was about
four feet deep. There was a human leg hanging out of
it."
Carroll, who has a string of convictions and is in
jail, knew Hughes, 31, by sight.
Earlier four police officers said they also saw the
accused that night.
Hughes denies raping and murdering Sophie, seven. The
trial continues. |
