YORKSHIRE Ripper Peter Sutcliffe has been dumped by his bride-to-be - who cancelled their wedding after pleas from her worried children. It has left Sutcliffe, jailed for life in 1984 for killing 13 women, "in turmoil" because he convinced himself that marrying Pam Mills would lead to his release. He has told warders: "I feel betrayed" and is thought to have had electric shock treatment for depression.

Grandmother Pam, 54, ended their 15-year romance in an emotional phone call after her son Darren Platts and daughter Amanda "persuaded her to see sense". Darren, 34, said: "Every day we told Mum it would taint our family forever - she finally told Sutcliffe she wanted no more to do with him."

Pam, from Leicester, has written the Ripper 3,000 letters and visited him in Broadmoor since 1990. They got engaged in December and planned to wed in the chapel there.

A source said: "Sutcliffe's in turmoil. It seems he has finally realised that he is going to die behind bars."
