28/01/98 - Killer blinded Ripper
Independent
Murderer Ian Kay yesterday admitted attempting to kill
the Yorkshire Ripper by stabbing him in the eye with a
pen in a ward at Broadmoor hospital.
Kay, 30, pinned Peter Sutcliffe to the floor of the 47-
year-old's room after asking to borrow anenvelope. He
then stabbed him about 10 times in the eyes with a pen,
blinding him in one eye and severely damaging the other
one, Reading Crown Court was told.
Kay, who was serving life in Broadmoor for murdering a
Woolworth store manager, John Penfold, 21, in Teddington,
south-west London, in 1994, kept up a sustained attack
for 15 minutes on Sutcliffe in March last year, the court
heard. |
