About 1600 hours on Friday 081295, I was on duty when I attended 49 Gordon Road, Pitsea in order to conduct a weapon search. Prior to gaining entry to the bungalow I was carrying out a cursory search of the rear garden when I saw a vent about 6' up an external chimney wall.

Inside the vent I saw a rolled up carrier bag blocking the hole. On touching it I felt it contained something substantial and requested a scenes of crime officer to attend. About 1620 hours DC HYLTON attended and after photographing the location I removed the bag which I now felt contained a hand gun.

On opening the bag I saw it was a silver double nine revolver that was loaded with nine rounds of ammunition. I can produce this firearm and ammunition as my exhibit reference CJE/1. I then handed possession of the firearm (CJE/1) to DC HYLTON.
