I am the Operations Manager of the Global Cafe, the company title is First Continental. The Global Cafe, Romford is situated in South Street. The cafe has been open for about 8 weeks. Since the cafe has been open I have seen a man I know as Tony TUCKER in the cafe about two or three times per week.

I have known Tony on a casual basis for the last 8 years. I have ben associated with various entertainment establishments in Essex, that Tony has frequented I have come to know him a little better over the last 18 months. I know by reputation only a friend, of Tony's friend, Pat TATE, but he has never to my knowledge been in the cafe.

When I say reputation, I mean as a criminal. Tony was a very valuable customer and was never reluctant to spend money, he was always very polite to the staff who used to fight to serve him due to the tips he would give. He would always turn up for bookings, but if he couldn't make it he would always let us know.

He seemed to call, mostly on a mobile phone, but was quite a hard man to contact if you needed to. I believe that Tony booked a table for four persons, phoning on Monday 041295, I do not know who took the booking. About 1300 the next day I came into the cafe, and I was in a bit of a hurry and went past all the tables without seeing Tony.

He came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder and said 'hello'. I apologised for not having seen him, he told me he'd see me the following night as he had a table booked for 2030. His food was then served and he returned to the table and I could see he was in the company of a young girl, about 19 to 20 years old, she had long dark hair, and I believe she was wearing a brown jumper.

I did not see them again as I then went about my business. For the whole period the cafe has been open Tony has supplied the doorman for every night of the week. Tony deals direct with our head office situated at 198 Victoria Road, Romford, Essex. He then pays the doormen.

We always have the same doormen, Barry and Kevin. I do not know their surnames. We are linked by radio link, to Hollywoods Nightclub, just round the corner in Atlanta Boulevard, so we can get extra doormen quickly. Tony also runs the doormen at that Nightclub.

Sometime shortly before 1900 on Wednesday 061295, I cannot be sure of the time, Tony phoned the cafe and stated that he wished to increase the booking from four persons to six persons for the 2030 booking, and I told him that was not a problem. We said goodbye and I didn't hear from him again.

During Wednesday evening I was busy at the restaurant, I was aware that Tony and his party had not turned up as booked, and at 2230 we closed the restaurant. Hollywoods and the cafe are owned by the same company. When I spoke to Tony on Tuesday at the cafe, and on the phone on Wednesday he just seemed to be his normal chirpy self.
