Saturday,
17th January 1998
(The jury returned to court at 10.25 am).
MR JUSTICE HIDDEN:
Good morning, members of the jury, I hope you are refreshed after
your night. I gather that the coach got away a bit better yesterday
than it did before and that the meal was served at the hotel a bit
more promptly.I am very anxious that you should not feel under any
pressure during your deliberations. If you have not reached a verdict
by the end of today, you will not be asked to work at all tomorrow.
You will be taken off to the hotel on Sunday. You will have whatever
you decide is the day of relaxation you want; either a day at the
hotel, or a day a trip to be organised for you. If you are not agreed
by the end of the day, then it is Monday that you will next be considering
the matter. I am very grateful to you. Would you like to continue
your deliberations. If at any time you want a walk, you know it
can be arranged. Thank you.
(The jury retired again at 10.28 am).
MR JUSTICE HIDDEN:
Mr Munday, Mr Parkins, Mr Maidment and Mr Etherington, there is
nothing to report. If there are any exhibits that should not go
to the jury if they ask for them, I imagine by the fact that you
have not sought to raise it that there are none.
MR PARKINS:
There was one, but I do not think it is cause for concern.
