I am the proprietor of Taylor and Woodland Limited, a bakery
business situated at The Street, Woodham Ferrers, Essex. About
0145 hours on Thursday 071295 I left my workplace and at the
time I was driving my Jaguar motor car along the A130 road
towards Chelmsford.
About 0200 hours that morning I travelled along the A130 and
as I was almost level with White House Farm, Rettendon I became
aware of vehicle headlights on my nearside. These lights were
coming from a layby on the nearside which used to be the old
road. I automatically reduced my speed to about 35 - 40 miles
per hour.
I looked towards the light and saw at the mouth of the layby
a white van which I believe to be a Luton type. I believe
it was facing into the layby and was not displaying any lights.
The source of the light was a saloon car which was facing
towards the A130 and was alongside the other vehicle.
I cannot describe the vehicle except to say that it was Ford
Sierra size or bigger and I believe it was red in colour.
I did not see the index number of either vehicle. I did see
a male person moving between the two vehicles. I cannot give
any other description of the person.
I continued with my journey and it was not until 1445 hours
that same day that I became aware of an incident which had
occurred in the area of White House Farm, Rettendon.
