Prepared
Statement: Peter Darren Ager: 22/05/00
I am Peter Darren Ager. I am 33 and I live in Suffolk. I am a friend
of Jack Whomes.
Today. I travelled from Suffolk leaving my home at about 5 a.m.
and arrived at the M25 at about 7:15 a.m.After I arrived at the
M25.I took a decision to get involved in a peaceful protest in support
of the campaign to free Jack Whomes, who I believe was wrongfully
convicted of the Rettendon Murders.
I have known Jack since i was about 5 and know he would never have
taken in such a crime.I have great concerns over the Essex Police
investigation into Jack Whomes. I was arrested wrongly by Essex
Police on suspicion of supplying Jack with a firearm. This was about
6 months after Jack was arrested. I was interviewed by DC Norton
and DC Treadway of Essex Police.
It took a long time to get one tape of my interviews but the tape
with the questioning of my supplying Jack with a gun was said to
have been lost in the post.
I now know that the Essex Police investigation into my allegedly
having supplied Jack with a firearm was never disclosed to Jack's
defence lawyers. I was never charged with that offenceI feel it
is incredible that Jack has not yet been given a chance of an Appeal.
As a result. I am very frustrated with this country's legal system.
This has led me to protest today in support of the campaign to free
him.
I am a parachute instructor and I am very concerned about safety
in all that I do. My actions today did not hurt anybody and no property
was damaged. I do not believe i caused a danger to anybody.
The protest came to a peaceful end which was always intended.
I have been fully co-operative with the authorities. I had no intention
to interfere with traffic equipment at all. The last thing I wanted
to do was to cause any danger to anyone else or myself I took all
precautions to ensure the protest was peaceful and safe.
My only intention was to protest peacefully in support of Jack Whomes.I
rely on my right to freedom of expression ad my right to assemble
peacefully and protest.
