M TERRY (SIGNED)
I am employed by the department of Transport and I work at
12-18 Station Road, Sidcup, Kent, as an admin officer. About
1600 hours on Thursday 071295 I received a telephone call
whilst at work from a male caller who had been put through
to me via our switchboard.
I asked him which registration number he was enquiring about.
He stated the registration number of F424NPE and the fact
that it was a blue Range Rover. I got the details of the vehicle
on my computer screen and could see that we had no offences
for this vehicle.
I asked him "How can I help you". He stated that
the vehicle belonged to his boss and that he had received
a message on his answer phone from his boss to "sort
it out". I assumed he meant the vehicle had received
a red warning notice CLE2/6WN part 2.
This is a notice which is placed on a vehicle if the vehicle
excise licence is not displayed or has expired. I said to
him "had it got a red warning note". He replied
"Yes." I said "Where was the vehicle seen".
He said "In the London area". He then made the enquirie
of who the vehicle was registered to and I explained that
I could not divulge that information. I disclosed the area
of Stanford le Hope as where the registered owner was from
and told the caller that the vehicle excise licence had expired.
I was suspicious that the caller was on a "fishing expedition"
as to who the registered owner was. I told the caller I could
not give him any further details.
