- Alison murder sister facing new cop quiz
Ex-lovers fresh evidence probe
Daily Mirror
By Gary Jones
POLICE have re-opened an investigation into the case of two sisters
whose convictions for killing a love rival were quashed. Michelle
and Lisa Taylor spent 11 months in jail before an Appeal Court
judge ruled they were wrongly convicted of murdering newlywed
Alison Shaughnessy, 21. Now, Michelle's former lover Bernard O'Mahoney
has been interviewed about alleged attempts to pervert the course
of Justice. O'Mahoney, who led the campaign to get Michelle, 26,
and sister.Lisa, 23, freed after they were jailed, was quizzed
about interfering with witnesses and tampering with evidence.
Letters written by Michelle to O'Mahoney while she was in Holloway
prison asking him to contact vital murder case witnesses have
also been unearthed. The Taylor sisters' convictions were quashed
four years ago. Michelle had been having an affair with Alison's
husband John at the time of the brutal stabbing. Video Senior
officers have questioned O'Mahoney about false testimony concerning
a homeless vagrant who allegedly confessed to the murder.
He was also quizzed about the destruction of "unfavourable"
video footage in the case. O'Mahoney said last night: "The
police have been in touch and I may face prosecution over attempts
to pervert the course of justice." A senior police source
said: "A statement provided by Mr O'Mahoney will mean that
we will have to speak to both Michelle and Lisa Taylor. "This
is a matter we are taking seriously." The sisters' Solicitor
Christopher Elliot, said: "I can't, comment." |
