- Family of murdered Alison may sue
by PATRICK McGOWAN
THE BROTHER of murder victim Alison Shaughnessy said today his
family wanted to take civil action against the two sisters cleared
at the Appeal Court of the killing. "It is the only way to
get justice for Alison," said Robert Blackmore, 24. "My
mum and dad, my brother and sister are all In favour of it. It
is not money we are after." Mrs Shaughnessy, a newly-wed
21-year- old, was stabbed 54 times in 1991 at her home in Battersea.
Michelle and Lisa Taylor, then aged 21 and 18, were convicted
of the killing and spent 11 months in jail before being freed
on appeal. The Old Bailey trial had heard Michelle had been having
an affair with the murdered woman's husband. John, at the time
of the killing. In a further twist to the case, the sisters were
at the High Court today seeking to tighten the terms of an injunction
against Bernard O'Mahoney, who led the campaign to have them freed.
He has been interviewed by police.
Mr Blackmore said: "We see a civil action as a way forward.
The whole family has talked about it. We see this as the only
way we can get justice." The sisters' solicitor, Christopher
Elliott, was not available to comment. Meanwhile, the senior detective
in charge of the case, now retired, attacked the ruling which
freed the sisters. Former Supt Chris Burke said: "The Court
of Appeal was nothing short of a circus act. There is no such
thing as British justice, it's merely a game of chance." |
