- Bitter note of heartache
Daily Express
NEWLYWED Alison Shaughnessy, left a bitter testimony to the
heart ache her cheating husband caused her in the last days
of her life. Alison, married only 11 months, wrote to her
friend Edel Slattery in Ireland suggesting she suspected his
affair with Michelle Taylor.
Her last letter was never sent. Detectives found it neatly
folded in her handbag as she lay dead. Part of it read: "I
could give pages on Michelle but I would rather not, until
I see you. Don't let on to anyone, especially Michelle.
"At Laura's confirmation everyone was saying what a nice
girl she was. I felt like shouting out 'No, she isn't. You
don't know her at all'. "I could fill you in on the whole
story when I see you. "John told me Michelle is over
(in Ireland) for a couple of weeks, in a week's time.
I don't expect her to go to the trouble of going to see my
family, especially Aunt Stella, who did a lot for her. "I
am saying nothing until she does. I am starting again, God
what a bitch I am, I must stop, I have started to rave now."
Alison's mother had said she did not believe Alison ever knew
about her husband's infidelity. She added: "Alison was
a very private person. But I knew my daughter. I would have
been the quickest to know if anything was wrongr."
After Alison's murder, Mrs Blackmore and her husband, a Lon
don bus driver, took John Shaugh nessy to live with them in
Finsbury Park because he could not return to their Battersea
flat. "He had no place to live," said Mrs Blackmore,
48. "John could not go back there. He is our son-in-law.
Alison was his wife.
"It was all those things rolled into one. It was just
something that happened. John had been a big part of Alison's
life. He has been part of the family. "John was Alison's
only boyfriend he was her life. As far as we knew, she was
his life as well."
Mrs Blackmore said she could not remember when she first heard
about her son-in-law's affair with Michelle Taylor. "I
do not think it was until after the Taylor sisters were arrested
two months after the murder." Mrs Blackmore added: "I
am sure there is many a man around who has made a mistake."
