- Groom 'spent eve of wedding in my bed'
Daily Mail
THE mistress of cheating husband John Shaughnessy claimed
yesterday that he seduced her hours before marrying
the bride she is accused of murdering. Michelle Taylor
said he also wanted sex with her only two weeks after
the killing: 'I was totally disgusted.'
Clutching rosary beads, she went into the witness box
for the first time in the two-week trial. Taylor, 21,
and her sister Lisa, 18, of Kemble Road, Forrest Hill,
South East London, deny murdering bank official Alison
Shaughnessy, 21, who was stabbed 54 times at her home
in Vardens Road, Battersea, South-West London, last
year.
Shaughnessy has admitted spending his wedding eve in
Ireland with Taylor but denied having sex and claimed
they were in separate beds. But she insisted yesterday:
'We slept together.' Shaughnessy, 30, married Alison
hours later.
The prosecution claims that almost a year later, on
June 3, 1991, Taylor, fuelled by hatred, recruited Lisa
to kill Alison. Taylor admitted yesterday that at one
stage she had feelings of hatred and jealousy but claimed
they lasted only 'a few days'.
She said that by the time of the murder she and Shaughnessy
had not made love for months and she considered their
affair over. She also thought of Alison as a friend.
Her affair with Shaughnessy began in 1989 when they
both worked at a private clinic in Kennington, South
London.
She claimed he made all the running and that she was
'very hurt' when he later confessed he was engaged.
Taylor was asked about entries in her secret diaries
which the prosecution claims show she planned the murder.
In one extract she wrote: 'My dream solution would be
for Alison to disappear as if she had never existed
then I could give everything to the man I love.' She
told the jury, however: 'I meant for her not to be there
from the beginning, that John had not known her before
we met. I didn't hate Alison.'
The trial continues. |
