25/07/92 - Michelle isn't a nice person
By MIRROR REPORTER
Daily Mirror
VICTIM Alison Shaughnessy wrote a letter the day she died
in which she revealed her true feelings about Michelle Taylor.
It remained unfinished - and was in her handbag next to
her body.
Michelle had become a friend of the families of both Alison
and her husband, after her affair with John began. Alison
wrote that relatives thought Michelle "a nice girl".
She felt like shouting: "No she isn't."
On June 3 1991, bank worker Alison spent her lunch hour
penning the letter to Edel Slattery her husband's niece
in Ireland. She referred to a planned visit by Edel, saying:
"I could give you pages on Michelle but I would rather
not until I see you.
"Don't let on to anyone, specially Michelle."
Alison told of her anger at a family confirmation. she told
Edel: "Everyone was saying what a nice girl Michelle
is. I felt like shouting out: 'No, she isn't. You don't
know her.'
She went on: "I'll fill you in on the whole story when
I see you. John told me Michelle is over for a weekend in
a couple of weeks. I don't expect her to go to the trouble
of going to see any of my family especially aunt Stella
who did a lot for her.
I'm saying nothing until she does. I'm starting again. God,
I'm such a bitch. I must stop. I'm starting to rave on."
The letter was not put before the jury. Alison was believed
to have been unaware of her husband's affair.
But a detective said: "It's obvious Alison did not
have a very high opinion of Michelle."
