25/07/92 - Our girl told us in prayers to forgive John
By Nic North
Daily Mirror

ALISON'S kind-hearted parents took John Shaughnessy into their home after the horrific murder. And together they mourned the girl they loved.

But Shaughnessy never told them about his affair with Michelle Taylor. It was only when detectives broke the news seven weeks after the tragedy that they discovered the awful truth.

Alison's mother Breda Blackmore said: "When we found out, I prayed to Alison. If we had thrown John out there and then she would have looked down and said: 'Mum and dad, what have you done?' Alison was totally devoted to John.

He was her life." Breda's bus driver husband Bob. 50. said: "It would be wrong to turn John away from the door. That would wipe out five years of happiness that she had with him. "John will have what he did on his conscience for the rest of his life. For Alison's sake, we didn't want to have anything on ours."

Shaughnessy stayed on at the Blackmores' flat in Pinsbury Park, North London, until the beginning of the trial. "It caused trouble," said Bob. "But John was our son-in-law. That couldn't change over night." Shaughnessy has since moved out.

Shaughnessy's brother Thomas had boiling oil poured over him by his wife Marion after she caught him with his mistress.

She got three years probation at the Old Bailey in February.
