- Campaign to win freedom for sisters
Express & Star
A Codsall man has launched a nationwide campaign to free two London
sisters jailed for life for the murder of a bank clerk.
Bernard O'Mahoney says that the evidence against Michelle and
Lisa Taylor was entirely circumstantial.
In July Michelle, aged 21, and Lisa, 19, were convicted of the
murder of Alison Shaughnessy who was stabbed more than 50 times.
The sisters, from Forest Hill, South-East London, had both denied
killing 21-year-old Mrs Shaughnessy at her flat in June last year.
The Old Bailey had heard that Michelle Taylor had been having
an affair with Mrs Shaughnessy's husband John and her "dream
solution" was to remove her rival.
But Mr O'Mahoney says: "There was no hard evidence, only
circumstantial. The prosecution claimed to have 'infallible' evidence
to prove that Lisa and Michelle were lying when they claimed to
have been shopping in Bromley on the day of the murder. "
He produced a statement from the NatWest Bank which showed the
sum of £10 had been withdrawn from Michelle's account via
a card which had been used at a cash dispenser in Lambeth.
"Michelle could only say she had similar 'mystery' withdrawals
previously." Mr O'Mahoney said that Merseyside solicitor
Dennis Whalley was taking a number of other similar "cash
withdrawal" disputes to the High Court and had received over
400 letters detailing similar cases.
Mr O'Mahoney is now asking people who have experienced similar
problems with banks or building societies to write to him as part
of his campaign. |
