THE DREAM SOLUTION
The Murder Of Alison Shaughnessy - And The Fight To Name
Her Killer, Bernard O'Mahoney with Mick McGovern (Mainstream
£9.99)
"I HATE Alison, the unwashed bitch. My dream solution
would be tor Alison to disappear as if she never existed
and then maybe I could give everything I want to the man
I love"
These words of hate scribbled in a diary helped convict
sisters Michelle and Lisa Taylor of the savage murder of
newly-wed Alison Shaughnessy stabbed 54 times during a frenzied
attack in her own home.
At their trial, the prosecution alleged that 21-year-old
Michelle Taylor, aided by 18-year old Lisa, had murdered
Alison in a jealous rage. She had been having an affair
with Alison's husband.
Incredibly, after serving less than one year of their sentence,
the Taylor sisters were freed - thanks in part to an exhaustive
campaign by Bernard O'Mahoney. Having witnessed their trial,
he had been convinced that a major miscarriage of justice
had occurred.
Following the sisters' release, while writing a book about
their ordeal, O'Mahoney and Michelle Taylor began a passionate
affair - but he became suspicious when she started behaving
towards him in the obsessive way the prosecution alleged
she had behaved towards Alison Shaughnessy's husband.
As O'Mahoney tried to extricate himself from the affair,
he found a letter that could mean only one thing. The Taylors
fought to prevent O'Mahoney from telling the truth - but
in a legal battle almost as dramatic as the one that saw
the sisters freed.
O'Mahoney won the case. His book is compelling reading.
