I live at the address known to Police with my mother, father
and younger sister Tracey who is twelve, I have an older
brother called David who is 23 years old and who now lives
in Dorset, and an older sister called Michelle who is 20
years old and lives at an address in the Lambeth Area which
is known to Police.
I attended Crofton Park School in Brockley until I was 16
but I spent most of that last year off because of an operation
on my leg, When I was about 12 years old I joined a Martial
Arts Club with Michelle, David and Tracey. This was at the
AKNOYD CENTRE in BROCKLEY. The Instructor's name was Colin
and his wife was called Carol.
I heard her make comments about my mother and she also said
that I had thrown scissors on the table. I didn't but there
was a disagreement between them and my mother which resulted
in us leaving the club and joining another one in Croydon.
Michelle was allowed to stay on until a few weeks later
when we were standing outside the club, that is Michelle
and myself, when another student's mother asked me if I
had left, and there was an argument. Having officially left
school aged 16 years old and I got a Saturday job as a Sales
Assistant in the "Muscle and Fitness Pro Shop"
which has since closed down but was in KIRKDALE ROAD, FOREST
HILL.
After some time I had the opportunity to start employment
in the Accounts Department at the Churchill Clinic, Lambeth
Road, SE1, as a sales ledger assistant. My sister Michelle
was already working there as a Bought Ledger Clerk. Michelle
moved into the residency at the hospital during the short
time I worked there due to problems at home.
I only worked there for about six weeks because firstly
I didn't like the work and also because of a personality
clash with my Supervisor Anne Marie OWENS. Whilst I was
working at the Clinic I was introduced to a friend of Michelle's
called Jeanette TAPP or JJ who worked at the Clinic and
also lived in the residency at the Clinic.
I have since become friends with JJ. I first met John SHAUGHNESSY
at the Churchill Clinic about 3 years ago while I was visiting
Michelle at the Clinic and they were going out together
then. He also visited our house on occasions. This was all
before I started work at the Clinic.
I don't think they were still going out together while I
worked there as John was engaged to a girl called Alison
BLACKMORE. I first met Alison before I started work at the
Clinic on a day trip to France organized by the Churchill
Clinic. I would describe Alison as a very pleasant person
who appeared to be very loving towards John.
Michelle still remained very good friends with John and
subsequently with Alison. Michelle and Alison quite often
went shopping together and all three, that is John, Alison
and Michelle would quite often go out for a drink together.
While John and Alison were living in the residency at the
Clinic, Michelle would frequently visit their room and watch
TV with them.
I do remember that when Michelle learned of John's engagement
to Alison she was quite upset and it took her quite some
time to get over it. She said that as long as John was happy
she was happy and she thought Alison was a nice girl and
she would have been more upset if she hadn't been a nice
girl.
Before they got married Michelle arranged a party in the
Three Stags pub near the Clinic and did the catering for
it. I helped her do this. I'm not sure if this was a birthday
party for John or an engagement party for John and Alison.
Michelle also went to their wedding in Ireland and helped
them move into their flat in the Clapham area when they
moved out of the residency.
I have never been to their flat, I still visit the Clinic
quite often as Michelle still lives there and I stay there
most Monday nights wit either Michelle or JJ. Michelle has
since changed her job at the Clinic to become a domestic
so that she can concentrate more on catering, so she now
works 1500 to 2030 on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays. She also works with my father and me in my Father's
Cleaning business.
My father does sub contract cleaning work for 2 other firms
called T and L, and Inital Cleaning. On Monday 030691 I
left home at 0535 to go to the Arndale Centre in Wandsworth
for 0600, I can't remember if Michelle came to our house
first or if she met us there but all three of us were at
the Arndale Centre that morning.
My dad cleaned the entrance hall of the Centre and Michelle
and I cleaned the Food Court in the centre of the building.
I think we went to MacDonalds at about 0710 and at about
0730 we began buffing the floor of Woolworths until about
0920 when myself and Michelle left in Michelle's car to
go to the Fire Station at Sanderstead where we arrived at
about 1000.
We had to strip and repolish the floors at the Fire Station
and this took us until about 1320, I know it was about this
time because someone said that 'Neighbours' was starting
in 20 minutes. I then got one of the Fire Officers to sign
our work slip to say that the work had been done. This is
then given to my Dad who sends it on to Initial Cleaning.
We then left the Fire Station and drove home; a journey
which takes about 40 Minutes. While I was working that day
I was wearing an old green shirt, blue jeans and black trainers.
I had my hair tied back in a Pony tail. I can't remember
what Michelle was wearing.
Both my Mother and Father were at home when we got there,
which was around 1400 o'clock or thereabouts. I went straight
to the fridge to get some food and a drink and Michelle
went into the living room to Mum and Dad. I wanted to go
shopping for a new dress as JJ was having a Birthday Party
at the Clinic.
Michelle and I then ironed some clothes and changed. I changed
into a red 'T' shirt, blue jeans and red trainers and Michelle
changed into a black tracksuit top with a zip and a hood,
black 'T' shirt, green tracksuit trousers, and her pink
and white Nike trainers.
At about 1500 we both left to go shopping in Bromley in
Michelle's car, which is a white Ford Sierra Estate which
I think is Y reg, but I don't know the registration number.
Having arrived in Bromley we parked in a side road which
I think was near the Railway Station and we went into about
7 or 8 shops but didn't buy anything.
We went to the Body Shop but this is the only shop I remember.
I do remember that as we were walking past MacDonalds I
saw a man I know as PHILIP. He is a black rasta who I know
to say hello to and pass the time of day with. He lives
in the Forest Hill area I think, He's about 6' early 20's,
stocky build with shoulder length dreadlocks and he wears
a woolly rasta hat.
He has a little beard. He was driving along in his car which
is a little Red Ford, I don't know the model but it's quite
small and quite new. He shouted to us but I can't remember
what was said except that he asked us what we were doing
in Bromley. This was at about 1620 because I looked at my
watch and there was a clock on one of the buildings.
We were walking back to the car at this stage. We left Bromley
than and I remember that the traffic was quite heavy, We
drove straight to the Churchill Clinic where we arrived
at about 1720. I know it was about that time because I was
supposed to ring my friend Tessa JORDAN at 1730.
Michelle went to her room and I went to see if JJ was in.
JJ was in so I went into her room and Michelle came in almost
immediately. At 1730 I went back downstairs to the pay phone
outside Michelle's room to phone Tessa. I was on the phone
for about five minutes then I went back to JJ's room and
she was showing us all the drink and things she had bought
for her party.
At about 1755 Michelle said she was going down to help John
with the flower arranging as she normally does on a Monday.
She had phoned him earlier on in the day, I can't remember
where from, to say that she was going shopping and might
be late. She told John that he had better get the flowers
in case she was late.
Sometimes John would get the flowers and sometimes Michelle
would get the flowers from Buster Edwards outside Waterloo
Station. Either way the flowers have to be bought before
1800. Michelle left JJ's room and at 1800 or just after
I went back downstairs to ring my mother.
After this I went back to JJ's room where we chatted and
played Monopoly. At 1930 myself and JJ left her room to
go to the Off Licence beside the Ship pub to get some chocolates
and crisps. We went to the front of the Clinic and JJ stayed
outside while I went in through the reception and round
to the left where John and Michelle were doing the flowers
and I asked them if they wanted anything from the Off Licence.
They said they didn't. I went back out to JJ and we went
to the Off Licence where I bought a packet of crisps and
two chocolate bars, one of which was a fudge bar I think,
JJ bought a Diet Coke, We got back to JJ's room at about
1945. At about 1955 Michelle came back into JJ's room.
She went to the toilet I think, then sat down and was talking
to us and had a cigarette, She said she was going to meet
John at her car at 2015 and take him home as she was going
to collect some flower pots from his house, She quite often
gave John a lift home. Michelle left at about 2015 and the
journey there and back usually takes her between 30 - 40
minutes depending on the traffic.
I stayed with JJ in her room. At about 2130 Priscilla, who
lives in the room next to JJ, shouted that there was a phone
call for Michelle's sister. I went down to the phone outside
Michelle's room and picked up the phone, It was my mother.
She told me to stay with JJ.
I said that Michelle hadn't come back and Mum said she knew
and that something had happened and for me to stay with
JJ. I asked her what had happened and she said something
had happened to Alison and said something about she was
on her way to the Police Station.
I remember I kept asking what had happened to Alison but
I can't remember if she told me. Mum sounded upset and in
a hurry. We went back upstairs and I remember JJ had her
arm around me and was telling me to 'calm down'. We got
back to JJ's room and LES the porter was standing outside
the door and said there was a phone call on the extension
phone which is just outside JJ's bedroom door.
I picked up the phone and it was Michelle. She sounded very
upset and was crying and said that Alison had been killed,
She told me to get a cab home to Dad. I came off the phone
and went into JJ's room. I then went back downstairs to
the phone outside Michelle's room and rang my Dad to find
out what was going on.
Dad told me that all he knew was that Alison had been found
dead and for me to come home. JJ got reception to get me
a cab and I got home about 2300 or shortly afterwards. Tracey
was downstairs crying and I went upstairs to my Dad's bedroom.
Dad said he didn't really know much except that Michelle
said that Alison was dead when they got home.
We waited until 0310 when Michelle, Mum and John came home.
No one was saying much. I went to my room at about 0345
but I couldn't sleep and at about 0530 my Dad and I went
to work at the Arndale Centre. We finished the cleaning
at about 0900 and we got back home about 0930.
My Mum had stayed up with John all night and Roy the Policeman
came sometime in the late morning to pick John up, I cannot
think of any reason why anyone would want to kill Alison
or of any person who would want to. I am willing to go to
Court and give evidence if required.
I have been asked what the relationship was between John
and Michelle and to my knowledge they used to go out together
as boyfriend and girlfriend, but since John's engagement
to Alison they have been just good friends.
