Date of interview: 7th August 1991
Interviewing Officer: DC G. GALLAGHER
Time commenced: 04.16pm.

DC SUMMERS
This interview is being Tape recorded. I am Detective Constable Adrian SUMMERS and the other officer present is Detective Sergeant Gerard GALLAGHER. There are no other Police Officers present. Is that correct?

M. TAYLOR
Yes.

DC SUMMERS
For the purpose of this interview, could I have your full name please?

MT
Michelle Anne TAYLOR.

DC S
Also present is

P LISTER
Patricia LISTER from Andrew Keenan, Solicitors.

DC S
And the date today is Wednesday 7th August 1991 and by my watch it is now 4.16pm. We are in the interview room at Wandsworth Police Station. At the end of the interview

DC SUMMERS
Michelle, I will give you a notice that will explain the procedure for dealing with a tape and how you can have access to it. I must however inform you that you do not have to say anything unless you wish to do so, but what you say may be given in evidence. Do you understand?

M TAYLOR
Yes, I do understand and I wish to answer no more further questions. I have a short statement that I would like to read out that I prepared earlier on with my solicitor.

DS GALLAGHER
Thats fine, if you would like to read from that prepared statement Michelle. If you will read it out nice and clear and loud so we can pick it up.

MT
I do not wish to answer any more questions. I have already been interviewed by police officers three times prior to today and by yourselves for two hours this morning. There is nothing further that I can add. I have told you everything I know about this and what I have told you is the truth.

DS GALLAGHER
Thats fine. I respect your wishes not to answer any of my questions, which is your right of course, but I have also got things that I want to put to you, things that have not

DS GALLAGHER
been covered in the interview this morning, and things where there are discrepancies from the statements you made earlier. Before we go into any of those questions, are you feeling well enough to be interviewed at this time?

M TAYLOR
Yes.

DS G
Before we broke, we were discussing the possibility of a request for intimate and non-intimate samples, and you indicated to me that you had a problem in relation to needles and giving blood. Now to put your mind at ease, I have taken some advice since the break, and it would be suitable, it would be obviously better for us if we had blood, but we don't want to cause you any distress. We can also deal with the samples if we take samples of saliva for example but we need a sufficient quantity, and we could deal with it if we take samples of your head hair, but we would need sufficient quantity. Now if thats any consolation to you we will not be requesting any blood from you later on. If we do ask for those samples, I will get both those samples taken from you by a doctor and the Custody officer will explain later on about our doctor and your doctor and things like that can be explained to you later on when we are finished in here.

DS GALLAGHER
Going back to where we left off, I was asking you in particular about the discovery of Alison SHAUGHNESSY's body and we took it up to the point where the police arrived. There's a couple of points I want to clear up here and I want to ask you about. The first is how did you think Alison had met her death? Looking at the body where you found it, picture it in your mind's eye now and try and recall what she looked like and what you saw, wounds, blood that you described earlier, lying prostrate on that top landing, picture in your mind's eye that scene and tell me how you think she met her death.

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you think she had fallen down a flight of stairs?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you think she had been shot?

MT
No comment

DS G
Did you think she had been stabbed?

MT
No comment.

DS G
When did you phone your mother and your sister to tell them about Alison's death?

MT
No comment.

DS G
When was the last time you saw Alison alive?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You said in your statement that the last time you saw her was on 18th May. Can you remember that day?

MT
No comment.

DS G
It was a Saturday. Is there anything specific about this day that you can recall seeing Alison alive?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Earlier and in your statement, you said that you normally went to the SHAUGHNESSY house on a Monday. Now the 20th May was a Monday and the 27th May was a Monday, do you recall going to the SHAUGHNESSY house on either of those two days when the flower arranging was finished?

MT
No comment:

DS G
See if you did go to the house on those days, why did you not see Alison on those days on those particular days? The 27th was a Bank Holiday if that's uh, jogs your memory a bit?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Have you ever seen a dead person before?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Have you ever seen a person who had been stabbed before?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Have you ever experienced anyone close to you dying before?

MT
No comment.

DS G
See if Alison was your friend, I find it incredible to believe that you could not assist with your knowledge surrounding her death, especially what you did afterwards. I know we have warned you that you don't have to say anything unless you wish to and I know that

DS G
is your right, but I just find it strange if she was your friend as you say, that you wouldn't help us to discover more details about her death.

MT
No comment.

DS G
What's your relationship like with JJ?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Where did you meet JJ?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What do you think about her?

MT
No comment.

DS G
From the statements I have read, I get the impression you have taken JJ under your wing, would that be fair?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Because she was being abused or the mickey taken out of her or people taking her for granted, she returned that friendship with you. Would that be a fair assessment?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What's the relationship between Alison and Lisa?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What's your relationship with your sister?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Do you get on well together?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What's the sleeping arrangements at your parent's house in respect of you and Lisa?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Do you share a room with Lisa?

MT
No comment.

DS G
I noticed this morning that she's just maybe a little bit slightly taller than you, from the quick glance I got of her, er, do you share clothes?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Do you borrow money off each other?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Would you confide in Lisa if you had a problem?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Would Lisa talk to you if she had a problem?

MT
No comment.

DS G
When's Allson's birthday?

MT
No comment.

DS G
When's John's birthday?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Alison's birthday is just shortly before yours isn't it?

MT
No comment.

DS G
And John's is the beginning of December isn't it?

MT
No comment.

DS G
7th December, right?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What did you buy him for his last birthday?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What did Alison buy him?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you send him a card?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What kind of card would you have sent him?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Would it have been a 'Someone Special' card, or 'One I Love' card? Or a jokey card?

MT
No comment.

DS G
The presents that you bought John, did he take them home?

MT
No comment.

DS G
The card? Did he take it home?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What presents did he buy you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
And how did he treat you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did he take you out to dinner?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Buy you little gifts?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Little cuddley toy or something like that? Or the odd flower?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What outward way did he show that he cared for you, or show that he might have loved you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
In the statement you read out earlier, you have told us that you

DS G
have said all you knew about this incident. Is that he truth?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Well is it the truth or is it lies?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What did you tell your Mum about John?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Can you remember telling your Mum that you thought John and Alison were going to Ireland to live?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What knowledge did you have of John and Alison starting a family?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did John talk to you about him and Alison starting a family?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Before John and Alison got married, how often did you ask him to leave Alisoh?

MT
No comment.

DS G
How often did you ask him not to marry Alison?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you feel that John cared for you or did you feel that he used you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Then did you feel as if you two were desperate lovers as it were, or that you were just his bit on the side to put it very, very crudely.

MT
No comment. DC G Because I think that's how you did feel sometimes, that you were being used.

MT
No comment.

DS G
And you were obsessed with John weren't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
It was common knowledge at the clinic, everybody knew that you were totally and utterly overboard about him. Is that right?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Have you ever been down John's road with JJ in your car?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Where did John normally meet Alison when they finished work?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you ever meet Alison from work with John?

MT
No comment.

DS G
How did Alison get home from work?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You knew that she got a train from Waterloo didn't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
And where did that Waterloo train go to?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You knew it was Clapham Junction didn't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
But you've been with JJ on one occasion when you both saw John and Alison walking in the vicinity of Clapham Junction on the way home. Is that right?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Why did you go to Ireland last year?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You said earlier it was for John and Alison's wedding. What was the real reason?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you think you'd make a last desperate effort to persuade John not to marry her?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Why did you go to Ireland this year?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you know John's brother was getting married?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You did know that was the case didn't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Had you been invited to John's brother's wedding?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You knew Alison and John had been invited didn't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Why did you delay your return from Ireland?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Where did you meet up with John when you were in Ireland?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you stay at John's brother's house?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You did didn't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you sleep with John there?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You told a couple of different stories about why you were delayed. Is that right?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Or your return was delayed.

MT
No comment.

DS G
You told them in Ireland that you missed the Bus, the Coach, the airport then when you came back you told JJ a completely different story. That right?

MT
No comment.

DS G
When did you arrange to go to Ireland?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Who had you arranged to stay with?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Do you know a girl called Edele?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You do know Edele don't you? Met her last year. She was coming over this year to see Alison and John was her/cousin. You know her don't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You were aware that Alison had written a letter to Edele.

MT
No comment.

DS G
You were certainly aware of that now 'cos it was mentioned to you in one of your previous visits to the police station.

MT
No comment.

DS G
That come as a shock to you what was in that letter.

MT
No comment.

DS G
How did John's family treat you when you were in Ireland?

MT
No comment.

DS G
In your earlier interviews, why did you lie about your sexual relationship with John SHAUGHNESSY?

MT
No comment.

DS G
What were you worried about?

MT
No comment.

DS G
See I think you've told me 90% of the truth of what happened on 3rd June and I think you're lying about another time on 3rd June.

MT
No comment.

DS G
Have you told me the complete truth about what happened that day, what you did and where you'd been?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You see I think you've lied about a very, very significant part of that day.

MT
No comment.

DS G
' You wanted John SHAUGHNESSY for yourself didn't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
That's about it isn't it? You wanted him for yourself, you were fed up being treated like dirt,

MT
No comment.

DS G
fed up with being used, very understandable. You wanted to be No. 1 in his life, is that right?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You don't like some of these questions do you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You don't like them 'cos you know what I'm telling you is true.

MT
No comment.

DS G
You're very uncomfortable with these questions aren't you?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Because your demeanour has noticeably changed since this morning, especially when you are talked about the nitty gritty of why you are at this police station.

MT
No comment.

DS G
Because I think you murdered Alison SHAUGHNESSY.

MT
No comment.

DS G
Did you murder Alison SHAUGHNESSY?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Do you deny murdering Alison SHAUGHNESSY?

MT
No comment.

DS G
You see I find it Incredible to listen to that sort of answer when I've just asked someone did they murder someone.

MT
No comment.

DS G
What kind of weapons did you talk to Tim LANCASTER about that you had in your house?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Because we've seen him and he says that he saw some weapons in your room at the hostel and he goes on to say that you told him you had

DS G
a ceremonial sword and a dagger, but kept these at home. Did you tell him that?

MT
No comment.

DS G
Yes I think you did, I think you did have a ceremonial sword and a dagger at home.

MT
No comment.

DS G
I think that Alison SHAUGHNESSY was murdered with, she was murdered with a dagger. Sharp, pointed knife. Those wounds were horrific. Frenzied, violent attack with a knife, and I think you did it. That's the truth of the matter Michelle, isn't it? When you think about it - you murdered Alison SHAUGHNESSY, that is the truth.

MT
No comment.

DS G
And how you can sit there and say 'no comment' to something as serious as this is just beyond me. If you had one ounce of remorse in your body, you'd tell me the truth.

MT
No comment.

DS G
You're not even denying it are you?

MT
No comment.

DC S
That indicates that this tape is coming to an end and I propose to turn the machine, or turn this tape off and the time now is 4.45pm and I will insert another two tapes.
