38. From about the age of 14 years or 15 years, both girls together with the brother and youngest sister, attended Ackroyd Community Centre, Hershell Road, Brockley, where they trained in the Martial Art of Ju-Jitsu. Their trainer Colin ELGIE, stated that in combat, Michelle was always aggressive but in control. While he never taught her how to use weapons he coached her in knife defence.

39. Sometime in 1988 Michelle was at the Club with her sister Lisa and another girl and Mrs Catherine McCOY recalls an incident between her and the girls when she was merely trying to gain entry for her and her daughter into the building. Having asked them whether or not they were going to enter the Club, Michelle responded with a harsh rude statement "I'll kill you, you fucking cunt." The TAYLOR girls didn't let the matter drop and they followed Mrs McCOY when she became very frightened. Six months later Mrs McCOY recalls seeing both girls in Smiths Newsagents, Forest Hill, when albeit they said nothing to her, their manner was extremely threatening.

40. Mrs Carol ELGIE recalls the girls being at the Club and in particular Michelle having a crush on her husband Colin, and Mrs McCOY's husband Vincent. She states that both girls were competent at Martial Arts and that Michelle was very aggressive in combat.

41. Owing to a variety of incidents, the TAYLORS were asked to leave the Club in 1988. At that time Michelle had attained a purple belt grade and Lisa a blue belt grade.

42. After she left school Michelle obtained employement at the Churchill Clinic, 80 Lambeth Road, SE1. On 6th July 1987 she started there as a Bought Ledger Clerk. According to a colleague, Sally PEEK, an Administration Officer, Michelle was extremely competent, regarded as a clever girl, and was well thought of.

43. Albeit that she would have met John SHAUGHNESSY during the course of her working days, they did not really meet until John transferred into the stores or purchasing department in 1989. As previously stated their friendship developed from there. It would be fair to say that it was common gossip within the Churchill Clinic that both Michelle and John were having an affair before and after John and Alison's marriage.

44. It will be remembered that Michelle moved into the Clinic's accommodation at 62 Lambeth Road in May 1990. She became extremely friendly with Jeanette Jackqueline TAPP, a housekeeping assistant aged 24 years. Miss TAPP lived in the Clinic's accommodation at 60 Lambeth Road and occupied the room next to John and Alison.

45. Albeit Michelle would sometimes be in Alison and John's room to watch television, she more often than not was in the company with Jeannette TAPP. It was through this association that TAPP became friends with Lisa TAYLOR.

46. In April 1991 Michelle resigned from her accounts job at the Clinic and took on part time employment as a housekeeper. She worked from 3.30pm. to 8.30pm. on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Michelle gave the excuse that she changed jobs so that she could spend more time on her catering work because she wanted to start her own business in that kind of work.

47. For the past three to four months she has also been working for her father, Derek TAYLOR, who runs a floor cleaning business. He is a sub-contractor and takes work from three separate companies; Initial Contract Services Ltd., T & L Cleaning Contractors, Aldershot and Blue Ribbon Cleaning Company, Aldershot.

48. The work entails cleaning floors in Shopping Centres such as the Arndale Centre, Wandsworth and occasionally Fire Stations and Schools. 49. They have a fairly stable routine. At 6.00am they clean the floors in the Arndale Centre at Wandsworth until 7.00 o'clock ish when they go for breakfast at nearby MacDonalds. At 7.30am. they return and

49. /Continued... clean the floors in Woolworths in the Arndale Centre until about 9.30am. According to Derek TAYLOR the contract for Woolworths on a Wednesday morning stopped about two to three weeks prior to the murder incident.

50. While Michelle helped John on Monday evenings she never received any regular money for the work, only the odd cash payment when John thought it necessary.

51. As previously stated she attended two evening classes with John, but more recently she had to stop attending these because of a knee injury.

52. It is quite clear to some of the staff at the Churchill Clinic and indeed the investigating team that Michelle had, over the past two to three years, become completely and utterly obsessed with John. What is more, she would do anything to gain his total undivided love and attention.

53. When Lisa TAYLOR left school she worked on a Saturday in a Sports Shop in Forest Hill called Muscle and Fitness Shop. However it closed down and on 14th May 1990 she also worked at the Churchill Clinic in the accounts department. However Ann Marie OWENS states that she was not suited to the work and her contract was terminated on 28th June 1990.

54. Like her sister Michelle, she also worked for her father in the floor cleaning business. Not much else is known about Lisa at this stage, except to say that she appears to be a much quieter girl than her sister, but as Michelle a very capable physical girl, who would give her sister and her family every support, no matter the cost.

55. According to Lisa, she first met Alison when John arranged a trip to France sometime before she worked at the Clinic in May 1990. However, she did meet her on a few other occasions, such as the dinner at her parents house in July / August 1990 just after the wedding.

56. What is important is that Lisa has NEVER been to Flat 3, 41 Vardens Road, SW11, the scene of the murder. She states in her statement and it is confirmed by John SHAUGHNESSY, Michelle TAYLOR, and Ann TAYLOR her mother.

EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE MORDER - MONDAY 3rd JUNE 1991

57. As usual, Derek TAYLOR started his working day at 3.45am. cleaning the floors at Riverdale Centre, Lewisham. He returned home, picked Lisa up and then left for the Arndale Centre, Wandsworth at about 5.30am. to 5.40 am. At 6.00am. they were met there by Michelle who had spent the previous night in her room at 62 Lambeth Road.

58. Joseph Colin ROBSON, Security Officer for Sterling Services was there to meet them as usual. This is a regular, strict routine, because Mr ROBSON has to make a telephone call to his company by 6.05am. and if they miss him at 6.00am. they cannot gain access to the premises.

59. Michelle, Lisa and Derek TAYLOR spent the next hour cleaning windows and floors until about 7.00 o'clock to 7.10 o'clock when they went for breakfast at a nearby MacDonalds fast food restaurant within the complex. At 7.30 am. until 9.20 am. the three of them cleaned the floors in Woolworths Store.

60. John and Alison left their flat at 41 Vardens Road, SW11 at 8.20am. and took their normal route to work. Mr David HARDY, Senior Office Manager, Barclays Bank, 366 the Strand, WC1 confirms that Alison booked on duty that day at 9.00 am.

61. Patrick Joseph NOONAN, a Porter Storeman at the Churchill Clinic booked on duty at 9.00am. that day with John SHAUGHNESSY.

62. At about 9.20am. Michelle and Lisa TAYLOR left the Arndale Centre, Wandsworth, and travelled in Michelle's White Ford Sierra Estate car, index number RHX 958Y to the Fire Station, Lumpsfield Road, Sanderstead.

63. Christopher SCOGINGS, Fireman, saw both girls at 10.22am. in the Station. As he was the "duty man" that day he recorded the time and the fact they were on the premises, in the "Log Book". They were seen during the morning by David MORRIS, leading Fireman and Molly BROOKS, the Cook. Albeit that no one saw them actually leave the premises, the "Log Book" shows they left at 1.00pm. A photostat copy of the Log Book is produced as Exhibit No. CJS/1.

64. According to Michelle, Lisa and their mother Ann TAYLOR, the girls arrived home between 1.30pm. and 2.00 pm. Michelle changed into a black hooded tracksuit top, green tracksuit bottoms and pink and white 'Nike' trainers. Lisa changed into a red 'T' shirt, blue jeans which had 'Fuel' embroidered on both back pockets, and red 'Fila' trainers.

65. At some time around 2.30pm, which has not been verified, both girls leave their parents house in Michelle's car to travel to Bromley on the pretence of shopping for a dress for Lisa.

66. John SHAUGHNESSY states that in the middle of the afternoon, at between 3.00pm. and 3.30 pm. he received a telephone call from Michelle, and she told him she would be late arriving to help him with the flower arranging. Michelle confirms that she did make that telephone call but says that it was done when she left the Fire Station in Sanderstead just after 1.00pm.

67. Carol Ann HEALY, staff nurse at the Clinic, was going off duty at 4.00pm. When she walked out of the front gate she saw Michelle driving her white estate car out of the hospital, turn right in Lambeth Road and drove towards the river. She saw that there was a female passenger who she didn't know, but describes her having her hair in a pony tail.

68. In the late afternoon, at about 4.30pm. John SHAUGHNESSY received a telephone call from Alison. Nothing of any consequence was said and they concluded by saying they would see each other later. She used to ring him most days and hold a similar conversation.

69. Mr David HARDY, Alison's boss at Barclays Bank, confirms that she left the bank at 5.02pm. He produces a printout from a computer which verifies Alison's time at work that day. Exhibit No. DH/1 refers

70. Jane Margaret WILLIAMS, Barclays Bank Supervisor, left the Bank with Alison and two other girls. They went one way while Alison and her walked to the traffic lights at the corner of the Strand and the Aldwych. Alison waited for her bus and Jane WILLIAMS walked on to the next bus stop. Alison was wearing a denim jacket, black T-shirt/sweater, a floral skirt and she had her handbag over her shoulder.

71. Livia WHYTE, a Student aged 15 years, had just travelled by train from Waterloo to Clapham Junction when sometime between 5.30 pm. and 6.00 pm. she recalls a female answering Alison's description, walking out of the Station.

72. Michael CASEY who occupies Flat 2, 41 Vardens Road, SW11 arrived home at about 5.40 pm. to 5.45 pm. He unlocked both locks of the communal front door and having entered believes relocked them. As soon as he got into his flat he made himself a cup of tea and switched on the television and watched the News.

73. Mrs Christina WRIGHT the elderly occupant of the basement flat at 41 Vardens Road, saw Alison arrive home alone between 6.00pm. and 6.30 pm. She recalls the time because, as usual, she was watching the BBC 6 O'clock News. However her timing is wrong because Alison's journey from work to home is about 35 minutes which would put the time at about 5.40pm to 5.45pm. having left work at 5.02 pm.

74. John SHAUGHNESSY confirms in his statement that Alison more often than not arrived home between 5.30 pm. and 5.45 pm.

75. Albeit there is no evidence to support it, it is strongly believed that Michelle and Lisa waited for Alison to get near or even open the front door, before they approached her.

76. Having entered the hallway, Alison picked up her mail. Invariably, Michael CASEY would pick up Alison's and John's mail during the day and place it against the right hand wall, ready for them to collect in the evening, as you enter the premises. Obviously Alison didn't double lock the front communal door as she usually did on each occasion, being extremely safety conscious, because she knew that both Michelle and Lisa would be leaving the place after a short period of time. What they actually said to her about the reason for them both being there is still a mystery. One can only guess that they would have said they were on an errand for John or something similar.
