Villains, Gangsters or `Faces` as they prefer to be called are the men, gang and family members that have been making newspaper headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 50 years. Some of these individuals are household names, strangers talk about them as if they are long lost friends but few would recognise them if their paths crossed in the street.

Kray, Richardson, Conroy, Dark, Donnelly, Ferris, Fury, Massey and Woolard, the mere mention of these people has, in the past, struck fear into individuals and in some cases, entire communities. Despite their notoriety, the faces of many of Britain's most notorious criminals remain largely unknown. That is until now.

For the very first time, Britain's most infamous characters and crooks have agreed to be photographed to appear in this two part book, which will undoubtedly become an important record of our social history. In part one, the combatants in Scotland’s bloody gang wars are depicted in a series of outstanding and often shocking photographs. And when the war spills over the border into England, villains from the cities of Manchester, London and Newcastle are featured going about their grisly day to day business in images that have received praise from some of the top photographers in the world.

In part two of Faces, (due to published in 2010) there will be equally impressive classic photographs of villains and gang members from the Midlands, Liverpool, Essex, London, Glasgow, Ireland and Wales. Forget the celebrity gangsters that brag and boast about crimes that they dreamt up in front of their computer screens for inclusion in their fantasy filled memoirs.

Forget the football hooligans who have promoted themselves from being social nuisances into underworld gang bosses and forget the steroid enhanced doormen who stuff their bloated frames into ill fitting dinner jackets and then brag in their books that they are the Guv'nor.

The people featured in part one and two of this book are the real deal, they have been there, done it and have the T-shirt, they are the UK's genuine Faces.

In loving memory of my wife Emma Elizabeth O'Mahoney

I cannot believe that five years have passed since the day I married my beautiful wife Emma who was taken from me in such tragic circumstances. Her passing destroyed me.

For the first few years I fell apart and found life unbearable, no, impossible to deal with. How could the God I had always been told was good and true take such a young, innocent life from me?

Anger, rage, self pity and hopelessness have left me empty and bitter. I have been to places in my mind that I never wish to return to but time, as so many people have told me, does heal. Not completely, God forbid that I ever get over my loss, but it has allowed me to move on.

Thankfully I have found Roshea and she has helped me to be happy again, something I never thought that I could be.

I will never forget my Emma, a beautiful funny friend that left this life with part of my heart in her hands.

Wherever you are this day, think of her. xx

News Update

As usual, apologies from myself and Martin for the lack of recent updates on the site, we have both been genuinely tied up with personal matters that could not be left unattended to. Personal; I am extremely pleased, happy and proud to announce that my fiancée Roshea Tierney is expecting our child. Its early days yet but we have worked out he, she or perhaps they should be with us in January of next year. Well, do you blame me...

I am still undergoing "neurological tests" under the guidance of Professor Williams at the Queen Elizabeth hospital here in Birmingham. I don’t wish to speculate about the outcome of tests on anything as complicated as the human brain but I am hopeful that my problems will be resolved soon. I am informed that a diagnosis will be made within the next four to six weeks.

Last Man Standing. Steve Nipper Ellis.

The book is scheduled to be released on the 01st of August 2009. I think those that are interested in the more personal natures of those involved in the Essex Boys story will find this book of interest. It details the time Tate lived with Nipper both inside and out of jail before their "acrimonious" split which led to Tate being shot. The second half of the book details Nippers involvement with Percival and Alvin.

Faces Brian Anderson & Bernard O`Mahoney

Faces is going to published in two or three volumes by Stu Wheatmans publishing company; Tonto Press. There was absolutely no shortage of takers for these books but we felt that none of the publishers who offered to do the book were prepared to produce it in the format we thought it should be in – other than Tonto of course.

There are ongoing negotiations regarding a one hour TV programme being made that will include `a personality` re-visiting some of the people we have photographed and being interviewed about their lives. I am waiting to talk to Stu about a publication date and will update the site when one is agreed. The final "Faces" for book will be photographed over this week in London and the south-east and next Wednesday in Manchester and Liverpool.

Bonded By Blood the movie.

I was approached several months ago by a production company who are keen to tell the true Essex story rather than the current offerings. I am informed that rather than just tell the story from my arrival in Essex through to Tate etc…meeting in prison and elsewhere up until the murders, they wish to carry the movie/story on through the new generation story incorporating Walsh’s death, the Tretton shootings and the murder of Dean Boshell. For a true life based movie I honestly cannot think of a more gripping story. Filming is due to start in November and the film should be in the cinemas next year.

In the name of my Father. Paddy Conroy.

Paddy and I have both experienced traumatic times with our mothers health and so his book has been delayed but we are back working on it now. I know its easy for me to say but I honestly believe that his story is without doubt one of the best and most gripping true crime stories ever told. I am in no doubt that somebody somewhere will read it and put it on the silver screen. As soon as we have a release date we shall let you know, thanks for your patience.

The most encouraging news came a little over a week ago in the Court of Appeal when Ricky Percival appealed on twelve separate points and on the length of his sentence. After reading the paperwork the Judge said that the arguements raised regarding Osborne and Spendiff-Smith`s evidence were so overwhelming that he did not require the defence to make representations about them and granted appeals on both points.

After hearing submissions from the defence he then granted a further seven appeal points making a total of nine. The defence did not bother making submissions about the other three which were fairly trivial in any event. The Judge also ordered that all of the money (a substantial figure) that Mrs Percival has paid for her son in legal fees since his conviction should be paid back to her and he then granted both Walsh and Percival legal aid for the remainder of the Appeal which will be heard in the autumn.

A Solicitor for Steele and Whomes was in court and he thought that the Rettendon case may also be back in the Appeal court before Christmas.
